When we first created our storyboard, we had a bit of trouble figuring out where the shots were going to end up and we were confused about where the story was going to go. I drew out a storyboard with some of the crucial shots on it that we needed. We used the first storyboard as a rough guide so that we knew which order we wanted the shots in, some of the boxes do not have pictures in them because we did not go into a lot of detail.
We then seemed to realise that we didn't know where the story was going, and had to take a moment to brainstorm on some new ideas that we could incorporate into our trailer that would create a storyline whilst simultaneously creating more tension within the trailer itself. Our ideas have changed a few times since the beginning of planning so, we decided then that we would need an updated storyboard to make sure we were understanding of what shots we needed to film and how we were going to film them.
We have a few shots that we still don't know where we are going to incorporate them into our trailer, however we know these are shots that we want to include to create more depth. I have drawn them out and labeled them as 'extra scenes' just so that we still have them in the plans.
At the beginning, we wanted our trailer to be about a village in which lots of people get murdered. We had one main killer who was picking people off in the village and wanted to include lots of different shots filled with blood and gore. Then we decided that it wasn't really going anywhere so we wanted to add something else to it to make it more surprising. We decided we would add a paranormal element into it to make it more interesting and came up with the idea of the children being the murderers and them having a leader that would manipulate them into murdering the residents of the village. We later concluded though, that we didn't really want any paranormal element in there though as we wanted to focus more on the gore and murders, so we kept it as a slasher. We thought previously that we wanted to use young children to make it more creepy, however we didn't want to scare any children having them stand around in a graveyard at night time to we changed the idea to teenagers. We then had the problem of coming up with how they were being manipulated and who the leader would be, and came up with the idea that it would be a teacher leading them and have them all be a part of a film club at school. This gives us the perfect opportunity to have some really dark scenes where the teacher and kids are talking about all the murders which will make it seem more tense and give it more substance than our original idea would have.
Creating these storyboards has been a crucial part in our creative process because it has allowed us to envision our trailer from the beginning and has helped us in the filming and editing process also.
