Blood Testing
In this we tested varieties of fake- blood which we and other groups created. Each group created a variation of fake blood and in this video clip we tested each blood variation on taste, texture and how realistic each of them would look if used if a film. Identifying both the strengths and weakness of each blood we also discussed in our group where it could be used in a film and if it would be used in our trailer. In this video before testing we will run you over the steps how to make blood, in this case gravy blood. We also created two variation of gravy blood; each type of Gravy Blood had a different texture so we furthermore concluded that Gravy Blood can be useful in more than one location in a film scene giving is more use. These textures although not both displayed within the video where thin and thick.
Ingredients for Type of Blood
Chocolate Blood (Edible)
NEED
INSTRUCTIONS
NEED
- Light Corn Syrup
- Red Food Dye
- Red Drink Mix (Optional)
- Water (Optional)
- Flour ( Optional)
INSTRUCTIONS
- Combine the corn syrup with the red food dye until you get a realistic shade of blood.
- You can also use a red drink mix for example cherry Lucozade, however the taste at the end may vary but may make a better variation of the blood in a specific scene.
- Add a small amount of cocoa powder to the syrup mixture to darken the shade of the fake blood in order for it to change to a blood colour in turn making it even more realistic. Don not add too much or the blood will be too dark and unrealistic.
Icing Blood ( Edible)
NEED
NEED
- Icing Sugar
- Red Food Colouring
- Water (Optional)
- Put a little amount of icing sugar in a container.
- Add a few drops of red food colouring until frosting is reached the colour of the blood you want.
- Add water and you are able to make the blood thinner. Too much however will make it look unrealistic.
Gravy Blood (Edible)
NEED
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Make the gravy up as you would normally for food preparation.
2. If you want you are able to make the blood a little thicker by adding less water to the Gravy Granules.
3. Afterwards add the red food coloring in order to give it the look of blood. The more Gravy Granules added to the creation, the more food colouring you may need.
CAUTION!
Putting too much red food coloring in will stain clothing. Also adding too many grans of gravy will create a think texture if not enough hot water is added.

Conclusion
During the blood making, we discovered what different blood types taste like and what they would look like in filming. Each blood type had a different texture depending upon the way it was made and came out different when spitting.
The washing up liquid blood is very helpful if you need a large amount of blood and want a cheap easy process. It is also very easy to wash out of clothes as will react to the water. It is a thin blood type which mean it will run down clothes easier and will be able to affect a larger area. The only problem with the blood with the blood is that is may look fake because of the thin look. Another problem with the washing up liquid blood is that you are unable to use it in water as it will troth up. You should not put it into your mouth and swallow it because it is an uneatable substance and will cause harm to the person.
Our group made gravy blood. We repeated the process twice, each time changing the amount of grains added to the batch. The more grains added the thicker the blood can out. This would be good for a scene with lots of blood scattered everywhere. The lower grain blood was not tested fully and dissolved in the subjects mouth. Although this means we did not understand what it look like as blood to spit out, we discovered that it look very good as vampire blood around a persons lips. This is shown in the video when the subject ate the blood and large red patches were displayed around his lips.
Chocolate blood tasted the nicest so would be better for the actor or actress with the blood in their mouth but did not look as realistic as some when spat. However as a group we thought that this blood was best for a blood splatter which would run down a wall or a similar object after a victim gets killed. This is due to the thin liquid being able to run down the wall easily.
Finally, the next blood we looked at was Icing blood. This blood was not very good and we will not be using it in our acting. This is because when the substance came out it was thin in length but overall thick in diameter. This made it slow running down a person and stained clothes. Also because it came out in thin strips it could not affect a large surface area.
