When coming up with our trailer idea, we wanted to create something that would be completely unique. We took inspiration from multiple trailers, however we wanted to make something that would be individual and stand on its own as an interesting piece. Throughout creating this piece, our ideas changed multiple times so therefore, our inspirations changed along with it. Below are some of our inspirations from our final ideas as these are the ones that influenced our trailer the most in the end.
We wanted some sort of religious element in there, using the church featured as a main focus point and having multiple shots in the graveyard surroundings. Two films that influenced that decision for us would be 'The Exorcism of Emily Rose' and 'The Reaping.' Both of these films have a very heavy religious influence and we wanted to include something like that within our trailer.
The Reaping Plot:
Katherine is a former christian missionary who lost her faith after her family was tragically killed and now spends her life disproving religious phenomena. She visits a small town in Louisiana and finds that the happenings there cannot be explained with science, she has to regain her faith to figure out what is happening to the community. |
The Exorcism of Emily Rose Plot:
The Rev. Moore is prosecuted for the wrongful death of a girl thought to be demonically possessed, because he administered the church-sanctioned exorcism that ultimately killed her. Prosecuting attorney Ethan Thomas contends that the young woman, Emily, suffered from schizophrenia and should have been medically diagnosed. Meanwhile, defense lawyer Erin Bruner argues that Emily's condition cannot be explained by science alone. |
Towards the end of production, the 'Final Destination' movies would be a big inspiration as we wanted there to be lots of different murders throughout the trailer so we had to get creative, and these movies are very creative with their range of deaths throughout the franchise. We wanted a lot of freedom when it came to the filming and editing process so using the 'Final Destination' movies as inspiration would give us that freedom to make what we wanted whilst also having a goal to work towards with the sequence. These movies are thrillers, which means that they show scenarios that could happen in real life, (obviously they are exaggerated to make it more exciting, plus there is one supernatural element in there with the visions) so when creating our own trailer we wanted all of the shots to be real life scenarios that would create a good thriller.
Final Destination Plot:
Alex Browning has a premonition before his plane embarks to Paris for a school trip. Him and six other people are escorted off the plane after Alex panics and they watch the plane explode in horror from the airport lounge. Ironically, even though Alex's intuition saves lives, after the crash he is plagued by both guilt and suspicion. Alex believes their cheat with death won't last long and throughout the rest of the film we follow the characters stories as they all die. |
Final Destination 2 Plot:
Set a year after the plane explosion, Kimberly Corman is going on a vacation with three of her friends when she has a premonition about a pile up which kills multiple people including herself. She stalls her car to stop her and 8 of the intended victims from getting onto the highway, and they all watch the disaster from the side of the road. Kimberly leaves her car and an 18-wheeler truck crashes into her car killing all of her friends but she survives. Kimberly then talks to Clear who survives the plane explosion and then we see her trying to cheat death throughout the movie but she eventually dies along with everyone else in the movie. |
Final Destination 3 Plot:
Set five years after the original movie, Wendy Christensen and her friends go to an amusement park to celebrate their graduation. They all decide to go on the rollercoaster, before the ride starts however, Wendy has a premonition about the hydraulics failing and she screams to get off the ride. Her and multiple other people then get off the ride, some trying to help Wendy, others are just impatient. With a few of her friends still on the ride, the rollercoaster starts up and the hydraulics fail, killing the remaining people on the ride. Wendy is told about the plane explosion the next day and throughout the movie, Wendy tries to figure out how everyone is going to die and tries to save them, but she ends up dying five months later anyway. |
Final Destination 4 Plot:
Set ten years after the plane explosion in the first film, Nick O-Bannon has a premonition about a car crash whilst watching a race at Mckinley Speedway. He convinces his girlfriend and his other friends to leave and the crash happens without them. Two of the characters who were at the speedway then die in gruesome ways and Nick and Lori decide to try and save everyone along with the help of George but they all end up taken by death in the end. |
Final Destination 5 Plot:
Sam Lawton has a premonition of a bridge collapse whilst on his way to a company retreat, he gets off of the bus with his girlfriend and six of his coworkers follow and watch the bridge collapse from safety. At a memorial, the coroner warns the group that death is after them but no-one believes him. Sam figures out that because he saved Molly (his girlfriend) in his vision that death is not after her. Another survivor, Peter, is upset by this as his girlfriend ends up dying so he tries to kill Molly and ends up dying himself. Two weeks after these happenings, Sam and Molly are boarding a plane when they here a kid and some of his classmates being kicked off the plane. It is revealed that this kid is Alex Browning from the first film and that this movie is in fact a prequel to the plane explosion of the original film. Sam and Molly stay on the plane, thinking that Alex has just had a panic attack and they die in the explosion.

Also, another franchise that influenced our trailer is 'The Purge.' These films are all set present day and feature multiple murders with different levels of gore and horror. We only wanted to take a few elements as inspiration such as the range of deaths and weapons used, there are also multiple killers in each and masks used throughout the franchise which is something we wanted to include in our trailer.
The Purge Plot:
In 2022, the United States of America celebrates once a year "The Purge", a 12-hour period when any crime is allowed including murder. This movie follows James, his wife Mary and their two kids, Charlie and Zoey. Charlie spots a stranger in trouble outside on the CCTV and lets him into their home, the monsters who chase this stranger then change their strategy and target the family from outside their home. Will the family survive the night unharmed? |
The Purge: Anarchy Plot:
Set in Los Angeles on March 21, 2023 one year after the previous film, the storyline follows waitress Eva and her daughter Cali as they are taken out of their home and try to survive the purge with the help of Leo. Elsewhere, couple Shane and Liz are stranded outside during purge hours also. The characters come across each other and work together to get to safety. Leo wants revenge on the one night when it's legal. |
The Purge: Election Year Plot:
It’s been two years since Leo stopped himself from a regrettable act of revenge on Purge Night. Now serving as head of security for Senator Charlie Roan (Elizabeth Mitchell), his mission is to protect her in a run for president and survive the annual ritual that targets the poor and innocent.
